In Phoenix, we met and rallied with Puente Arizona to stand against a violent, white supremacist criminal justice system that allows for new Sheriff Paul Penzone, who took racist’s Joe’s seat, to continue to implement birthed policies by Joe Arpaio like SB1070, 287(g), S-Comm and ICE detainers happening in Maricopa County’s 4th Ave Jail. These policies and programs threaten migrant communities and put them in danger of ending up in the hands of ICE while separating families and fueling the for-profit prison industry that continues to torture us behind bars, dehumanizes us by keeping us away from our loved ones, and disrupts the peace in our communities by creating terror in our streets.

We are now a year into Sheriff Penzone’s complacent silence and day after day parents are being prosecuted, families are caged and people are deported. Silence and inaction from our representatives is violent and we must call it out and demand action to get ICE out of 4th Ave Jail now! Our community’s future is at stake and in crisis our call to action is to #AbolishICEinAZ and that means to get ICE out of 4th Ave!
